Guest review of local golf courses

Kissimmee and area Golf

The Kissimmee area has an abundance of golf courses that range in both quality and price. While not an exhaustive list, the following will give you some appreciation of what the area has to offer.

For each of the golf courses listed, you will find the distance to the course from the villa, the relative price range you can expect to pay for a round, ($) for the least expensive to ($$$) for the most expensive, and a brief description. You will also find a link to the course website where you will be able to learn much more as well as find tee time booking links and precise pricing. The price for golf varies with the season. The most expensive times are February through to April and the least expensive are June to August. There are also savings to be found in the fall and winter months.

While most golf courses tend to retain the quality of the golfing experience they offer, some courses improve over time and others deteriorate. To find the most current reviews of any golf course you’re considering playing, you are strongly encouraged to visit Golf Advisor at

If you’re hunting for bargains visit Golf Now “Hot Deal’s” at

You will typically find great pricing for specific times, sometimes several days in advance, often for one or two players at courses that are attempting to fill their tee sheets.

If you can plan well in advance of your visit, you might also consider joining Group Golfer at to receive offers to purchase vouchers for golf courses in the area, generally at significant savings.

THE COURSES (all within 15 miles of the villa)

Mystic Dunes

[0.9 mi] ($$) Located immediately adjacent to Windsor Hills, this is worthy of consideration. There are many wonderfully challenging holes but check the current course conditioning.

Orange Lake

[3.0 mi] ($ - $$) This large facility offers The Legends, their premiere course as well as The Reserve (18 holes), Crane’s Bend (9 holes), and The Legends Walk (9 holes illuminated for night golf). Make a point of playing The Legends if you can.

[3.2 mi] ($$$) Lightly Disney-themed, this course has a floating island driving range to help get you warmed up for what will be a most enjoyable round.

Waldorf Astoria

[4.3 mi] ($$$) Although not affiliated with Disney, this high-end course is located in the Bonnet Creek Nature Preserve which is surrounded by Disney property. This is high end golf at an exclusive property.

ChampionsGate Golf Club

[4.7 mi] ($$$) There are two courses on site, the International (links style) Course and the National (parklands style) Course. Both will challenge the avid golfer.

ChampionsGate Country Club

[4.7 mi] ($$$) This is the newest course at ChampionsGate but listed on this separate website. This course is typically superbly groomed for your enjoyment.

Highlands Reserve

[4.9 mi] ($$) Located just a little south on Hwy. 27, this course is a mixture of both parkland and links style golf. There are some lovely wooded holes as well as a series of wide open and forgiving stretches.

Disney Golf

[5.6 mi] ($ - $$$) Disney offers three championship courses The Palm, The Magnolia, and Lake Buena Vista as well as Oak Trail, a par 36 walking course. You just can’t have a bad experience playing Disney courses but that’s no guarantee against a bad round.

Falcon’s Fire

[5.7 mi] ($$$) A Rees Jones designed course, it is known for outstanding tournament hosting. There are some lovely holes as well as many straight and open, less inspiring challenges.

Orange County National

[8.6 mi] ($ - $$$) Occasionally home to Q-School, there are two championship courses on site; Panther Lake and Crooked Cat as well as the nine hole executive walking Tooth course. You can’t go wrong on either of the two premiere courses.

Ridgewood Lakes

[9.3 mi] ($) Located south off Hwy. 27 in Davenport, this course offers nearby, very affordable golf. Bring along lots of balls to feed the water hazards.

Kissimmee Golf Club

[10 mi] ($) Located adjacent to the Kissimmee Gateway Municipal Airport, the planes coming and going make for some interesting but very affordable golf. Check current conditioning before booking.

Bayhill Club & Lodge

[11 mi] ($$$) Home to Arnold Palmer’s Florida PGA stop, this is golf at its best!

Oaks National

[11 mi] ($) Golfing among the mature live oak trees, this is another very affordable golf outing but check current conditioning before booking.

Southern Dunes

[14 mi] ($$$) Be sure your sand game is finely tuned at this course that is located south on Hwy. 27 in Haines City. You only see this much sand on a beach but it makes for an interesting challenge.

King’s Ridge

[15 mi] ($) Located north on Hwy. 27, King’s Ridge offers both an 18 hole, par 71 course and an 18 hole, par 57 executive course. This is a solid course at an affordable price.

Hidden Gems - a little farther afield ... (but under an hour away)

If you don’t mind driving a little farther, there are some very fine golf courses that offer great value. Here are a few:

Sanctuary Ridge

[23 mi] ($) Located north of Kissimmee in Clermont, and very unusual for Florida golf, the impressive elevation changes, coupled with wonderful vistas, make golfing here a unique experience. The conditioning could be rough around the edges so look at the latest reviews.

Huntington Hills

[37 mi] ($) Located in Lakeland, this course is an excellent test of your entire game. If you want to avoid I4 (and who doesn’t), take the scenic route along Deen Still Road (the extension of Ronald Regan Pkwy). The drive is well worth it - a great course at a great price!

Red Tail

[45 mi] ($$) Truly a hidden gem of a course, it is located north of Kissimmee in Sorrento. It’s perhaps the best value of all courses cited here. It boasts a variety of beautifully styled and manicured holes. You won’t be disappointed.

The Club at Eaglebrooke

[45 mi] ($$) Located in Lakeland, you will discover a delightfully challenging golf course at a very affordable price. The variety of challenging holes and the beautiful views will delight all golfers.

Mission Inn

[47 mi] ($$ - $$$) Both the El Campeon and Las Colinas courses are highly renowned for their consistent quality. Located in Howey-in-the-Hills, less than an hour north of the villa, this is quality golf at an affordable price. If you can, play them back to back and make a day of it.

Deer island

[48 mi] ($) Situated on a secluded island near Tavares on Lake Beauclaire, you will experience a unique round of golf complete with alligators, tortoises and much waterfowl. Don’t be surprised if the local crows chirp “oh oh” on your backswing.
